Three Exercises For Prostate Cancer Patients

When you are suffering with prostate cancer and going through treatment of some kind, you will likely experience side effects from the prostate cancer treatment. One of the most frequently reported side effects that people suffer when they are being treated for prostate cancer is fatigue. Chronic fatigue can really wreck your life since it can make even the simplest tasks appear impossible. When you try to justify your fatigue, it may be problematical. You may feel as if you walked five miles when you first get up in the morning. You may not be able to get up off the couch at night.

The good news is that there are things you can do to help this specific prostate cancer symptom. Exercise is one of the best ways to help get some of your energy back. Sure, you might be thinking that exercise is the last thing you want to do when you are feeling tired. However, exercise is the perfect way to enhance your energy and get to your blood flowing. Not to mention, when you exercise, you help your body cure faster and give it the best chance of fighting off prostate cancer.

Take a look at three exercises that men with prostate cancer might want to try. Keep in mind that you should take it easy with these and only go at a comfortable pace. You are not trying to do anything but get your body moving, your blood flowing, and the energy returning. In order to make it a fun experience also, find a friend or family member to do these exercises with you.

Walking

One of the best and most accessible exercises you can possibly do is walking. You can literally walk anywhere. If the climate is nice, take a daily leisurely walk around the block. If it is cold or rainy, consider heading to the nearest mall to see the sights. No matter where you walk, or for how long, your body will be getting energized and stronger due to it. When you walk every day, you will start realizing the effects of your exercise and likely be less fatigued.

Swimming

Swimming is another great activity for men with prostate cancer. Swimming is great exercise and is easy on the rest of your body. Many times, because prostate caner men are over 50, they think they cannot exercise due to a bad knee, bad back, or other illness. However, with swimming, you can exercise without really feeling the stress on your body.

Weight Training

If you were in good health prior to you were diagnosed, you might also want to add a little weight training into your exercise program. Certainly, you may not want to start doing this if you have not exercised much in years. You can start with a few push-ups or bicep curls if you desire and move on up to bigger and things that are more tiring.

You may want to speak with your doctor about other things you can try to get energy back, if exercising regularly does not seem to help your energy.
