Prostate Cancer Prevention

Prostate Cancer Prevention is important to consider since what causes prostate cancer is still unknown to modern science. Medical practioners still can’t give an exact cause why there are changes in the prostate gland of the male, (that walnut size organ located below the bladder and in front of the rectum) occurs.

These changes referred to in the medical world as prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia or PIN is closely associated with prostate cancer and is a cause for alarm. Having high-grade or abnormal PIN is closely associated with prostate cancer that in most cases, where an abnormal PIN is detected in the prostate, doctors would often subject the patient for further biopsy.

Although the cases of the changes in the male prostate are unknown, the good news is that scientists have discovered ways to prevent such fatal changes that leads to prostate cancer.

The body normally has excellent natural defenses against prostate cancer. For various reasons, most people will never contract cancer since their bodies do now allow cancerous cells to grow. However, certain factors in a person’s lifestyle and environment can disturb the natural balance of the body, allowing cancer cells to well.

Prostate Cancer Prevention: Smoking and Alcohol

Smoking is a case in prostate cancer prevention. In the United States , almost ninety percent of lung cancer patients are smokers. It is not difficult to realize why. It is now common knowledge that tobacco smoke comprises over four thousand damaging chemicals. These chemicals, over time, deal huge damage to the human body, especially to the lungs.

The longer a person has been smoking cigarettes, the higher the chances of lung cancer. In the same way, alcohol addiction is the number one cause of liver and kidney failures. The point is this: the risk of disease decreases considerably, when a person stops indulging in certain harmful habits. Similarly, when a person starts cultivating positive habits, it further declines the risk of becoming ill.

In order to help you prevent or otherwise minimize the effects of prostate cancer, here are some things you can do:

  1. Avoid Overweight
  2. Change your eating Habits
  3. Going through your Illness
  4. Regular Medical Check-ups

Prostate Cancer Prevention: Avoid Overweight

First prostate cancer prevention method is, avoid becoming overweight. If you are already overweight or obese, apply all efforts to remedy that situation. Exercise regularly. Join a gym. Run in the morning. While the connection between obesity and cancer is not fully accepted, we do know that excess weight is injurious to one’s overall health. Obesity lays the body open to whole host of illnesses, and anything that minimizes the power of your immune system should be avoided.

Prostate Cancer Prevention: Prostate Cancer Diet

Second prostate cancer prevention is, look after you eat. Again, this is related not only to prostate cancer, but to your general health. If you do not consume fruits and vegetables on a regular basis, start doing so. Fruits and vegetables are packed up with full of the nutrients that your body requires to stay in best condition. Try to consume food items that contain antioxidants, such as tomatoes, oranges, etc. Antioxidants are substances that attack free radicals. Free radicals are oxygen atoms that can turn healthy cells into cancerous ones. You will minimize the possibility of getting prostate cancer by means of ingesting more antioxidants.

Prostate Cancer Prevention: Report your Illness

Third prostate cancer prevention is, study your illness. In the United States , Prostate cancer is the second leading killer among men, next only to lung cancer. After the age of 60, there is a 1 in 7 chance that you will be diagnosed with it. Thus, it only makes sense that you know as much about it as you can – your life might rely on it. Knowing that you are at an added risk above a certain age should also induce you to be very alert about the prostate cancer symptoms.

Prostate Cancer Prevention: Regular Medical Check-ups

Last prostate cancer prevention is, get normal medical check-ups. Many people skip this step and pay for it. Getting regular check-ups may seem like a needless expense, but it is a basis to good health. Prostate cancer, if discovered in its early stages, is easy to treat. Once the disease has advanced, however, it is fatal. By getting yourself checked at regular intervals, you are positioning yourself to detect the illness when it presents itself, and therefore defeat it more easily.
